We found a Habitat For Humanity warehouse located about 5 miles from our hotel in Asheville.
Our concierge suggested we avoid the area because it was “industrial”. Oh horrors a corridor of interesting cafes, BBQ joints, artist lofts and small manufacturing plants!
Of course we had to drive around this area, get some great coffee at Clingman’s cafe and stop in to this Home Center to see how they operated. Here is a little tour with photos.
As you can see from the photos, the place is big at around 13,000 sf and its very busy!
No kidding with the great deals they have there. They have a house wares area and home building supplies too. So you can find everything to furnish your house like plates, cookware, couches, vacuum cleaners, classes, and a nice vintage 1950’s side board for $350! More details in the slide show….

The wall with plaques honors donors to the organization. In the center you can see the large plaque for the Perlmans who donated the building! I have to check if its the same family who The Perlman Center in Philadelphia is named for. 
Around the back of the HFH building was a metal recycling center also very busy. I took some snaps of the green crane with magnetic lifting device. 
We don’t have an organization like this one in Philly. But we do have folks we donate useful items to from our project tear outs. We will also use Craigs List curb side pick ups. These work well for us. Its nice to see old items reused instead of in the landfill.
