Your House is Talking
You may not have noticed but your house is telling you something about its identity.
A tiny city trinity, a bungalow, a 4 square, a Queen Anne, a 1950’s rancher are all speaking to you and everyone else. They speak in the languages of style and function.
A good designer will understand what they are saying and make any renovations “fit” your house.
In a tiny 1800’s trinity, spaces and furnishings need to do double or triple duty. Modern kitchen and bath function are achieved with the same tailoring of components you might see on a boat. Tidiness, great fit, simple finishes, accepting that the limitations in space afford opportunities.
Bungalows often have wonderful craftsman details, rich woods like fumed oak, large dimensions to materials. Colors can be dark and luscious. Good lighting, craftsman details to cabinets, rich counters will all add to the beauty of this home.
A Queen Anne will have a mix of Victorian details outside. Kitchen Design Science was already developed along with “The Working Triangle”. Traditionally a mix of beaded board, painted cabinets, soapstone counters and farm sinks would have been used. A modern sleek kitchen can be wonderful here as well.
Your 1950’s rancher is going to be low slung and horizontal. A major element of its overall design will be the garage, since it was with this period in time that the car became the force behind development.
When you choose a design/build company, be sure you choose one who understands the language your home is speaking.
